Britpave Barrier is a family of complimentary high performance barrier systems.

Tested and certified to safely contain and re-direct a 13,000kg bus (EN1317: H2 Containment) and yet provide a working width of 0.8m or less.
Britpave barrier systems have been in service across many European countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway; they have never been breached and have never required any form of maintenance remedial work undertaken.
A survey by the United Kingdom’s Highways Agency discovered that concrete barrier reduces the frequency of reportable accidents by some 70%; a finding that contributed to the Highways Agency specifying concrete barrier along the median of all motorways. Link to HA website
Britpave Barrier systems provide a Working Width as low as W1 at N2 Containment (W2 in the case of H2 containment). This allows hazards close to the traffic to be safely accommodated or in the case of installation along the median a minimal width central reserve and highway land take.

Britpave Concrete Barrier is designed to provide a 50 year maintenance free design life.
Britpave barrier systems have been in service across many European countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland and Norway; they have never been breached and have never required any form of maintenance remedial work undertaken.
The 60 metre long sections of Britpave Concrete Barrier impacted by 13,000kg buses travelling at speeds of 70kph were not displaced or damaged; they were quite capable of withstanding a similar impact in the same location.
A key benefit of Britpave Concrete Barrier systems is that following installation Road Overseeing Authorities should not have to put road workers at risk nor compromise normal traffic flow to carry out any future remedial work to the barrier even following significant impact like the H2 containment crash test.
The prescriptive specification, high strength concrete and rigorous audit system ensure that Britpave Concrete Barrier systems will meet the design expectations of the system and the as tested performance.
Once installed Britpave Concrete Barrier systems cost nothing for a minimum of 50 years; importantly that includes future costs to the environment.

Britpave Barrier is supported by a suite of detailed but easy to follow drawings, technical data sheets and design reports.
The unique design documents have been developed by industry with input from Road Overseeing Organisations under the expert watching eye of Arup.
Foundation requirements are minimal and clearly specified.
A prescriptive specification allows contractors to develop bespoke installations that best suit individual projects and sections of highway yet ensure a compliant product in line with the original EN1317 tests is built.
Transitions to other barrier systems and terminations adjacent to structures and crash cushions are included.
Approved associated products have been developed and tested by Britpave. These include anchors and fixings for traffic signs and light columns as well as anchor cradles and reinforcement cages.
A number of ancillary variations of the core barrier systems allow for
·         incorporation of both steel and concrete Britpave barrier over bridges
·         variable profile barrier to suit adjacent carriageways sited at differing levels
·         wide barriers upon which traffic signs and street lighting systems can be affixed
·         Emergency Crossing Points (ECPs)
·         expansion joints.
Primarily constructed by the slipform technique Britpave Concrete Barrier is installed rapidly, under imposed quality control, to fine tolerances using state of the art equipment. Extrudakerb own and operate a large fleet of the latest slipform pavers all capable of providing the highest quality of concrete barrier at lowest cost.
Extrudakerb uniquely design and manufacture their own variable profile paving moulds. As contractor and equipment manufacturer Extrudakerb are able to build upon innovation driven by the needs of the construction team.
Transitions, terminals bifurcations and localised widening sections are constructed by conventional fixed form work. Extrudakerb design and manufacture their own unique modular steel shutters improving efficiency and quality, reducing cost and maximising productivity.
Ancillary products including Britpave Steel Step Barrier at ECP locations and expansion joint as well as sign and light column fixings are all installed in house by Extrudakerb.

Benefits – Britpave Support and Audit
Britpave Barrier systems are wholly specified and detailed within a comprehensive suite of technical documents.

Only approved and Licensed specialist contractors are able to install Britpave Barrier systems. A Britpave Licence is only issued following rigorous investigation and pre-qualifications to ensure that the high standards and extensive experience demanded by Britpave is realised. Licences can be revoked at anytime should an installer fail to adhere to the standards required. Licences are renewed annually.

Licensed installers are audited throughout the year with review of both clerical and on site procedures carefully examined. Audits are carried out by Britpave’s technical consultants Arup. The audit system allows Road Overseeing Authorities, Designers and Principle Contractors to be confident that only the approved EN1317 tested barrier system is being provided.

Britpave’s Licensed installers have unlimited access to an on line query service provided by Arup on behalf of Britpave. Designers and Principle Contractors may also make limited use of this service. In the case of concern with an installation a query will give rise to project specific investigation and audit by Britpave.

All Britpave installations carry full liability assurance provided by Britpave. All installations are certified as being complaint with the Britpave design and therefore carrying the Britpave confirmation of quality by the installer.

Extrudakerb hold Licences to install Britpave barrier systems in the UK, Ireland and Poland.
